Latisse®

Latisse® is the first and only FDA-approved treatment for hypotrichosis, or inadequate eyelashes. Latisse helps eyelashes grow longer, thicker and darker.

Available by prescription only, Latisse® is the brand name for bimatoprost ophthalmic solution (0.03%), originally produced by Allergan Inc., the makers of Botox®, and sold under the brand name Lumigan since 1996 to treat glaucoma by lowering intraocular pressure in the eye.

Allergan has since obtained FDA approval and re-branded the drug Latisse® for topical cosmetic use in the treatment of hypotrichosis.

A clinical trial at Miami University, in which the drug was given to subjects to use in one eye and a placebo in the other, confirmed the effectiveness of Latisse®. Eyelashes treated with the solution grew an average of two millimeters in six weeks.

Although the exact reason Latisse® works in unknown, it is believed that the drug delivers its established benefits by affecting the growth (anagen) phase of the eyelash hair cycle in two ways. It increases the length of the anagen phase and also increases the number of hairs produced in the growth cycle.

Latisse® solution is a once-a-day treatment you apply each evening at the base of your upper eyelashes. It’s that simple and easy.

Bella Aesthetica MedSpa & Wellness Center clients typically begin to see results in eight weeks, with optimum results coming at between 12 and 16 weeks.

In some instances, Latisse® can also be used to treat thinning eyebrows, as well.

The effects of Latisse only last as long as the drops are being used.

The drug has been proven safe and effective in a number of independent clinical studies.
