Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal (LHR) is one of the most effective solutions for the common cosmetic problem of unwanted hair, for both men and women. Ideal for all skin types – including African-American, Asian and tanned – LHR leaves your skin feeling soft, silky smooth and hair-free.

Known technically as “epilation by laser,” LHR is much more effective than more time-consuming or messy traditional solutions such as shaving, waxing, tweezing and depilatories, which can only provide temporary results.

Laser hair removal has been performed safely and successfully since the mid-1950s, although it has only been commercially available since the mid-1970s.

Modern lasers have been used since the late 1990s for the removal of hair and are approved by the FDA for that application. The heat from the light of the laser is absorbed by the pigment, or melanin, within the hair shaft. The heat then triggers inflammation in the hair follicle, which causes the follicle to enter its resting, or telogen, phase. While in this phase, the follicle produces no hair.

While many providers tout laser hair removal as “permanent,” it is not. The only treatment that can permanently remove hair is electrolysis.

In order to create the appearance of permanent hair removal with LHR, long-term maintenance treatments are necessary. However, over time, the duration of the intervals between your treatments will get longer and longer. After achieving your initial goal, you will only require additional treatments once or twice a year to maintain your results.
